About the role
This role oversees and manages the provision of a safe and efficient operation of our transport infrastructure and traffic engineering services through planning and design of projects. This role reports to Manager Planning and Design.
Duties
- Spearhead renewal programs for road, path, and transport assets in alignment with Council’s Operational Plan.
- Collaborate with the Senior Transport Planner to develop annual operational budgets for transport capital, operational, and maintenance works, as well as asset renewal programs.
- Implement transport infrastructure works programs, including cost estimation, reporting, and determination of methodologies for treatments outlined in the Operational Plan.
- Provide leadership and support to colleagues and direct and indirect reports, facilitate stakeholder coordination, manage road safety and transport risk management programs, and ensure financial reporting
Skills & experience
- Hold a degree in Civil Engineering or relevant engineering discipline
- Demonstrate significant recent experience in overseeing civil engineering planning for large transport networks
- Strong knowledge in Austroads, Transport Act and Roads Act
- Experience in investigation, plan development, estimating, and design of transport infrastructure works
- Exhibit advanced verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder negotiation
- Possess a current Class C driver’s license and General Construction Induction (White) card
- Understanding of Project Management and associated processes

- Proficiency in managing and supervising civil engineering works and contracts.
- Strong technical skills, including Excel and basic AutoCAD proficiency.
- Experience in supervising teams and coordinating resources to meet program targets.
- Proficiency in civil engineering design and construction practices, including survey techniques for problem-solving.
