About the role

This role oversees and manages the provision of a safe and efficient operation of our transport infrastructure and traffic engineering services through planning and design of  projects. This role reports to Manager Planning and Design.

Duties 

  • Spearhead renewal programs for road, path, and transport assets in alignment with Council’s Operational Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Transport Planner to develop annual operational budgets for transport capital, operational, and maintenance works, as well as asset renewal programs.
  • Implement transport infrastructure works programs, including cost estimation, reporting, and determination of methodologies for treatments outlined in the Operational Plan.
  • Provide leadership and support to colleagues and direct and indirect reports, facilitate stakeholder coordination, manage road safety and transport risk management programs, and ensure financial reporting

Skills & experience 

  • Hold a degree in Civil Engineering or relevant engineering discipline
  • Demonstrate significant recent experience in overseeing civil engineering planning for large transport networks
  • Strong knowledge in Austroads, Transport Act and Roads Act
  • Experience in investigation, plan development, estimating, and design of transport infrastructure works
  • Exhibit advanced verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder negotiation
  • Possess a current Class C driver’s license and General Construction Induction (White) card
  • Understanding of Project Management and associated processes

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Services Coordinator, the Senior Infrastructure Engineer will lead the Engineering Department and oversee the development and evaluation of Council’s infrastructure assets, and spearheading major renewal and upgrade programs.

Duties

  • Lead civil engineering investigations and develop plans, specifications, and estimates for the Council’s Capital Works program.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with Regulatory, Council, and Quality System standards and deadlines.
  • Advise relevant departments on optimal design solutions.
  • Generate reports to assess team performance and prioritise safety measures.
  • Spearhead the development of major infrastructure programs.
  • Prepare essential documentation for funding bodies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Capital Works Program.

Essential requirements

  • Civil Engineering Degree, min 5 years’ experience.
  • Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia.
  • Proficiency in managing and supervising civil engineering works and contracts.
  • Strong technical skills, including Excel and basic AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Experience in supervising teams and coordinating resources to meet program targets.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering design and construction practices, including survey techniques for problem-solving.
  • Driver’s license.
